12 June 2015 – Dog World

All ahead for Southern Counties Championship Show held at Newbury Showground, Thatcham. Surprisingly the roads for us were fairly clear for a Saturday but we had left early as we had been advised that the exit to the showground from the motorway was closed, so better to be safe than sorry. True enough they were and after a little scenic country road adventure we arrived at the showground in plenty of time. May have been a lucky day as our car was parked adjacent to the tent we were in, so this was most convenient.

Southern Counties marquees must be the longest in the world, they go on for ever. Taking a trip to the loo was more in the vain of competing in a sponsored walk, certainly not the best to do on the spur of the occasion as your class could be well over by the time you returned. In/out rings, so another added bonus with plenty of room for both showing and grooming areas.

Mrs Claire Anne Ahern (Pipistrelle) arrived looking smart and ready for her day of judging Papillons. Mrs Ahern had travelled from Southern Ireland to judge the dogs, so indeed a long journey to travel. She went over the dogs carefully on the table and with the help of her very competent stewards the day ran along smoothly.

The principal winners of the day were as follows; Denise Welsh was overjoyed when awarded her 3rd cc thus giving Kazim Matador (JW) the magic Champion title. He also received BOB. Denise has been absent from the ring for some time and I am sure she enjoyed catching up with her fellow exhibitors and had lots to chat about. Many congratulations Denise. RDCC Irene & Glenn Robb’s CH Gleniren Shootin Starmaker Sunshoo. BCC Michele Buss’s Ch Twiggy Cupcake of Flutura (JW), RBCC Jo Davidson-Poston’s Spinillons Classic Caress (JW, SHCM, IR Jun Ch). BP Joyce Gregory’s Skyvana Reddy to Go to Tonkory, who also went on the take TPGP1 under Mr John Walton-Haddon (Ilsham). Well done to both the breeder Sophie Langdon and owner.

News has come in from the Open Show front. At Melton Mowbray& DCS, Carol Lees had a good day with her youngster Lynflyer Winter Story at Lafford taking BP/BOB, TGP4 and TPGP3. Both the breed and Groups were judged by Mrs.A. Sedge ever. (Russmic). I am sure Lynda Woodrow his breeder was delighted.

It is with great sadness that I have to give the news that Carol Brunsdon (Havenbar Papillons) has passed away. Carol had been ill for a while and it was lovely to see him and Dot at WELKS in April. I enjoyed a lovely chat with them both. Carol was a gentleman and loved his dogs unconditionally who were very much part of their lives. Funeral arrangements are not yet known at this present moment. Our thoughts are with Carol’s wife Dot and family at this difficult time.

Glenn and I attended Lyndsey Pemberton (Lynbank) funeral. Pleased to say it was very well attended by many doggie people. Charlotte, Lyndsey’s daughter coped so well and her Mum would have been so proud of her.

The entry for Papillons at Border Union on Sun, 21st June is 90/99 a good entry where Mr Mervyn Evans (Citegan) will be judging. The show information is as follows; Paps are in ring 11, benching tent H, wet weather H25 and judging starts at 9am.

Blackpool the entry is 87/99, the show is on Fri, 26th June. Mr Rob Sansom (Byermoor) will be taking on the task of judging the breed, a good entry for a Friday as it is a day a lot of folk can’t get off work. Remember this year Blackpool is at a new venue so remember to change your Sat Nav to Redwood Park. Pinfold Lane. Inskip. Nr Preston. PR4 0UA. Otherwise you could be enjoying the day on your own!

Well that’s your lot for this issue. Enjoy the sunshine we have been promised and relish every moment.
