08 July 2016 – Our Dogs

Best In Show Blackpool 2016 Ch Rozamie Dream Lover, our second Papillon this year to take a BEST IN SHOW!!! What a fabulous 2016 Ch Rozamie Dream Lover is having after his year off. Jacob as he is known at home, took a rest in 2015 after achieving Top Papillon for 2013 and 2014. His owners Joe Magri and Kevin Arrowsmith did less showing due to business commitments. They bought Jacob back out at Crufts this year where he went Best Of Breed under breed specialist Mark Whitehill. Several Best Of Breeds later and he makes it right to the top award of Best In Show under Paul Harding.

Our breed judge on the day was a well known allrounder Howard Ogden and the Group Judge that awarded Jacob Group 1 was Rob Sansom. My own papillon went RBCC this time with Caroline Lee Slater piloting her charge to the BCC and her crown, congratulations to her owner Sue Victor and breeder Carol Lees. Sean Carroll and James Newman’s Top Winning Irish Dog went RDCC.

At this show we had a Best Junior competition and that was awarded to Tom Isherwood showing the young male he owns with Jenny Scovell, bred by Mike Gadsby. Best Puppy was handled by Kevin Sharp-Dixon . So the official results look like this Best of Breed & Toy Group 1 & Best In Show: Ch Rozamie Dream Lover (Messrs J A & K N Magri & Arrowsmith). Best Puppy: Zoloto Princess Queenslake (Messrs K & J Sharp-Dixon & Reyes). Best Junior: Afterglow Lord Helpus (Isherwood & Scovell). Whilst we were all at Blackpool taking in the excitement of our second Papillon in the breed taking a top honour of Best In Show this year, another amazing event was taking place. Our very own Kirsty Wells was being ordained. Several Papillon folk went to the ordination and some lovely photos of Kirsty were seen on her facebook page. Many congratulations from all of us. x

Windsor Championship Show 2016 was as delightful as in previous years. Always a firm favourite of UK and overseas visitors. This years show delivered on point as usual. I love driving through the village of Datchet. At the junction by the river Thames with its little boats moored up, when you turn right there is the showground nestling in the shadows of Windsor Castle. This years weather was reasonable as well, with sunny spells throughout the day.

I was not showing at this show due to having dogs in partnership with Joe Magri (Rozamie) our judge on the day. There was a celebratory atmosphere around the ring, and Carol Lees had certainly dressed for the occasion. One could have imagined her straight from tea with the Queen. The champagne and strawberries to celebrate her latest Champion, made up at Blackpool, owned by Sue Victor and handled to her title by Carol Lee Slater, were just delightful. Thank you ladies, real style! Another stylish person was our Judge Joe Magri, fresh from his BIS win at Blackpool, he took centre stage to access the 118 dogs entered under him from the UK and overseas. The largest entry so far this year excluding Crufts, where Joe had taken BOB with his BIS winning dog. Two overseas exhibitors, one showing at her first UK show, had a super day, and the long journey home must have flown by. Julija Pavlova (Latvia) won a first in Junior Bitch and Lisa Christensen showed Liz Bartram’s veteran dog to a very creditable second. Another overseas exhibitor but not so far this time was Sean Carroll, (Ireland) no stranger to our rings, this time making up his Irish and German Champion into a UK Champion on the day. Juno is owned of course with James Newman. Sean later piloted Juno to Group 2 in the Toy Group after winning Best Of Breed. A delighted Pat Munn (Ringlands) not only took the RDCC with her boy, she went on to win the Bitch CC notching up 10CC’s for Champion Mad About Saffron at Ringlands.

On a sadder note at the beginning of the judging, Gordon called for a minutes silence in remembrance of Mrs Ruth Johnson (Dourhu) a much loved member of the Papillon Fancy here in the UK. Our thoughts are with her husband and family.
