03 February 2017 – Dog World

Manchester Championship Show is always a highlight of the year, with the maximum of cc on offer for the breeds. The committee run the show like clockwork, it is always presented to the highest degree and the BIS ring is a joy to behold. If you feel like a shopping spree there are plenty of trade stands to browse at your leisure.

A cold wet miserable day, but once inside the main hall the weather becomes a thing of the past. The Papillons were situated in Annexe B, as always noisy but this is something we have become accustomed too, maybe not the best place to introduce a puppy for the first time. At first the heating is on and all is warm and cosy, however at times it would seem the heating is switched off and you feel the chill immediately. I suppose the concrete flooring does not help to warm the bones easily. But this aside, plenty of space for benching in most cases and the rings are of a good size. This was our first show back for 2017 so it was really nice to catch up with folk, both in our lovely breed and those showing elsewhere. Nice pleasant atmosphere around the ring with plenty of smiles and banter, so it was a fun day for all those involved in preparing and showing their dogs.

Affenpinscher’s were judged in the ring first and Papillon judging was to commence at approx 11am so we all had time to socialise and shop. Our Papillon judge who had a good entry had a task on her hands as the Papillons did not commence judging till gone 12 noon. But the day went calmly and all was okay finishing in time for commencement of the groups.

Dr. Annukka Paloheimo was judging our breed and she arrived looking attractive and smart in readiness for the day ahead. Not sure if this was the first time for judging the breed here in the UK, but a first for us and many more exhibitors. The two conscientious stewards made sure that everything kept rolling along smoothly and Dr Paloheimo went over the dogs kindly and gently, giving everyone their special moment whilst on the table and on the move. It is always fun and exciting to see the New Year puppies making their entrances and I expect as always, there will be an array of little ones at this years UKTD. I personally love to watch the newbie’s and try to predict in my mind, what their futures may be in the coming months. Good luck to everyone with a little four paws, I hope your dreams and visions come true for the year ahead.

Dr Paloheimo found her principal winners to be as follows. DCC/ BOB /TGP2 Irene & Glenn Robb’s CH Gleniren Shootin Starmaker Sunshoo. The TGP was filled with quality dogs and the TGP judge Mr David Guy had a mammoth ask in hand. The TGP was won by the Maltese who then went on to BIS under Mr Martin Freeman, so a big shout out for the toys, very well done. BCC was a delighted Melanie Mann with Johnasta Special Edition At Melangel (naf taf) This was Melanie’s first challenge certificate, so very well done I am just thrilled for you. Sue Stanbury finished her youngster off in puppy in good style taking BP with Angullyon Trading Secrets with Inixia, so a thrilling result for Sue. Joe Magri & Kevin Arrowsmith took the RDCC with Ch Rozamie Dream Lover and also the RBCC with Rozamie Madame Reeva. BV was Dr E & M Griffith’s with Melangel Maybelle At Manawyddan.

Heading out of the building at around 6.30pm I have got to say it was freezing cold and the trolley was in the car double quick and heating put on! It is hard to believe that the next Championship show is Crufts, oh my goodness, then we are in March. If you have any open shows in-between Crufts please let me know your results, we all want to hear them. The Pap Club have their Open Show on the 4th Feb in Solihull where Richard Haynes ((Eburacum) will be taking the helm. It will be an exciting day for him, I am sure.

Don’t forget to visit the Pawscars Facebook page or Dog World for voting for the nominees in the various categories. You may know that Glenn was so humbled to have been nominated for Exhibitor of the Year in one of the categories, so go on to the site and see all the categories of the people that have been nominated. Votes close Feb 8th, so please cast your vote and make a difference. There is also a postal vote, see details in the Dog World. Pawscars makes a huge contribution to charities during the year and you and everyone can make such a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves. Wrap up warm and be careful travelling on the roads. Until next time, take care, everyone.
