01 May 2015 – Dog World

All wheels heading in the direction of the Kennel Club Buildings at Stoneleigh for The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Clubs Championship Show. This venue is always a bright, airy with two huge rings and loads of walking and grooming spaces available. Lots to see as there were plenty of stalls around the perimeter of the hall. Gordon and Cathy Urquhart were there with Hub International, so if you had left anything at home or needed to top up supplies you could promptly purchase it from the stand. Eileen Roberts was displaying her wares for our canine friends ably assisted by Penny Robins. The club stall and the Trophy tables looked well presented with Ian Dack in charge of making sure the Annual Awards Trophies were ready to go to the 2014 winners. This year instead of winner cards the club had provided beautiful rosettes as keepsakes.

The show commenced at 9am in the dog ring for the Junior Handling with Rob Sansom (Byermoor) looking immaculate putting the juniors through their paces. Callum Thornton took the honour of BJHIS on this occasion, very well done Callum. Mr Sansom later in the day was to judge Best Fringes in Show and the all important pinnacle awards of the day BIS, RBIS and BPIS.

Mrs Amanda Bruce-Jackson (Tijuana) was judging the bitches and arrived in the ring looking smart and elegant in a blue embroidered dress and jacket. Mr Stuart Mallard (Tuckles) also dressed immaculately commenced with the dog judging when the Junior Handling had finished. The day went along smoothly with the help of the very able stewards in both rings. Everyone was happy and the atmosphere was social and talkative.

During the lunch time break everyone were treated to the puppy walk. What fun it is to see the youngsters taking their first steps in the ring. The dog ring was full so a good show of little ones. Mrs Christine Foynes (Lafay) had taken on the task of going over the puppies and was very gentle and kind. Not sure who enjoyed it most Christine or the puppies! All the little ones seemed to enjoy themselves so that is what it is all about. Next came the Parade of Champions, this is a chance for the retired Champions to have a day out and strut their stuff.

Last but not least was the presentation of the Clubs Annual Awards. Mr Alan Bartram the clubs newly appointed Chairman took to the microphone and announced the winners individually. So a good day was had by one and all, congratulations to the committee for providing us all with such an entertaining and social day. The rosettes for the winners were beautiful and Valerie Lockhart had made some lovely winners gifts also. Thank you to Royal Canin for sponsoring the show.

It is with great sadness that the news has come through that Mr Ken Raper (Kennice) has passed away. Many of us will remember Ken’s late wife Margaret and Ken at the shows. Both were lovely people who attended most of the shows and loved their Paps. Ken was at Crufts this year and it was lovely to see him showing. Both will be missed greatly.

Out now to enjoy the sunshine with the four paws in the garden. Hope the sunshine stays for WELKS, fingers crossed.
